At airport, “Lower your mask”
Traveling by air for the 1st time since the pandemic. When I had to show my ID for TSA, they asked me to lower my mask so they could see my face better. Everyone at the airport has a mask.
Happy holidays
Sitting in front row plane in Miami waiting to get out. Interesting that essentially everyone leaving wishes the flight crew "happy holidays" not merry Christmas. Crowd coming from Boston.
Masked and maskless in supermarket
About half the people in the supermarket today in Miami were wearing masks, half not. In Boston it is 100%. But actually half is more than I expected.
Press freedom in China
In the Reporters without Borders World Press Freedom index, China scored 177 out of 180. Hong Kong moved down from 8 to 80 in one year.

China's foreign minister has called for the country to pursue "diplomacy with Chinese characteristics in the new era.” What an original phrase -- where have I heard this before? Hint: Xi Jinping.
