New US ambassador to China
It was nice to see my colleague, Nick Burns, nominated by the president as ambassador to China, state in his confirmation hearings a much calmer view of the US China relationship than is common in more feverish circles.
Used cars are expensive!
Business week reports that the average used car sold last year for over $25,000, a 21% increase on the year before. I am amazed how high this number is!
Celtics banned in China
The Boston Celtics have been banned from the Chinese Internet after one of their players expressed support for freedom for Tibet. Enes Kanter, the player, is originally from Turkey and has been outspoken before on political issues related to human rights, he has lost his Turkish passport. China thin skin again.
China Daily survey of international youth attitudes to China
ChinaDaily reports survey of young people attitudes to #China. Report noteworthy lack of specific numbers. “Percentage of youth hold positive attitude toward China and China's domestic governance higher in developing countries than developed nations,” but don’t say how high.
